What is c acid

2-Amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, also known as c acid, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C10H9NO6S2. It is an aromatic amino acid with a disulfonic acid group (-S(O)2OH) attached to the 2-position of the naphthalene ring. C acid is a white to pale yellow solid that is slightly soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It is used as a starting material in the synthesis of a variety of chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

How is c acid produced

There are several ways to synthesize 2-amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, depending on the starting materials and the desired yield and purity of the final product. Here is one example of a synthesis of 2-amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid:

2-Naphthalenesulfonic acid is treated with a strong base such as sodium hydroxide to convert it to the sodium salt.

The sodium salt is then treated with a reducing agent such as sodium hydrosulfide to convert it to 2-amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid.

The resulting mixture is cooled and filtered to remove any solid impurities, and the filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid as a white to pale yellow solid.

This is just one example of a synthesis of 2-amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, and there may be other methods that are used depending on the specific requirements and conditions of the synthesis.

What is c acid used for

2-Amino-4,8-naphthalenedisulfonic acid, also known as c acid, is a chemical intermediate that is used as a starting material in the synthesis of a variety of chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Some examples of compounds that can be synthesized from c acid include:
